Is Gentoo one of the most secure distributions out there?

Linux.com sports an interesting article today in which they describe how Gold Lasso uses Gentoo to power it’s e-mail marketing business. I found the following quote really interesting, which made me wonder is Gentoo one of the most secure distributions out there?

“One of our previous employees was into Gentoo, and made us believe that it is one of the most secure distributions out there,”

I think isn’t “one of the most” but “the most”. OpenBSD claims to be the most secure OS ever because only bugs tracked in openssh are counted, so.. gentoo doesnt have even openssh by default. So.. is the most secure OS. :P

Now serious.. theres a huge diference about packages inside gentoo and other distros, and gentoo doesnt need to be paranoid about that like debian (even that paranoic mode doesnt mean nothing, cause debian is one of the most bugged distros ever).

Sry for the late reply but your comment got buried in spam comment :0 I totally forgot about OpenBSD which off course is famous for it’s security.

After playings round with other distro’s I know for certain Gentoo is one of the most secure distro’s. It has security support for over 11.000 packages which all build from source, making them extremely transparent. In contrast most other distributions rely on third party repo’s thereby increasing the security risks.
